Recent news has widely focused on the human trafficking activities of the telecom scam group in Northern Myanmar. This criminal activity has attracted global attention, and the United States has officially called for the characterization of these active fraudsters in Northern Myanmar as international criminals. Against this backdrop, another unique and thought-provoking story re-emerges: How does Waykichain, as a blockchain project, harness the power of its decentralized community in a global hostage crisis?

Looking back to 2022, when Afghanistan was retaken by the Taliban, many dissenting citizens’ lives were threatened, including Hamid Obaidi, spokesperson for the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education, who featured in “Waykichain Rescues Hostages”. Hamid’s student, Rahimi, a member of the Waykichain WICC community, alerted the community to Hamid’s predicament, and a rescue plan was initiated internally. This rescue operation, driven by the Waykichain community, successfully helped Hamid escape Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

This is a story between ordinary citizens and blockchain community volunteers, revealing the important role decentralized communities can play (to a certain extent) in global hostage crises. So, how was this achieved?

At that time, Waykichain had community distributions in various regions and countries around the world, operating in collaboration. Under this model, community members were distributed globally, able to quickly rally and mobilize global efforts to address such emergencies.

In the case of Hamid, Waykichain’s community mobilized members from different regions, from arranging safe hideouts, providing Hamid’s family with necessities, to coordinating immigration procedures; it was all accomplished collectively by Waykichain community members.

However, the power of decentralized communities lies not only in their global distribution, but also in their agility and high collaboration. They can quickly organize and coordinate actions within the community to jointly solve problems. During Hamid’s rescue operation, members of the WICC community, though scattered around the world, were able to quickly rally and participate in the rescue operation, collectively aiding Hamid.

Additionally, blockchain technology played a crucial role in this process. As a decentralized technology, blockchain ensures transaction transparency, user privacy protection, and also guarantees the safety of funds. At that time, all on-chain financial support was completed through the Waykichain public chain, providing safe and reliable technical support for such rescue operations.

The current telecom fraud crime activities in Northern Myanmar demonstrate that similar hostage crises are not far-fetched. The rescue operation by the Waykichain community vividly demonstrates the role decentralized communities can play in global hostage crises. When facing global challenges, the global distribution, agility, and collaboration of decentralized communities, as well as the security and reliability of blockchain technology, can be crucial tools in effectively addressing these challenges.

After all, just a year ago, the Waykichain community had already provided an effective solution to this problem.
